Over the past few years, Asian fusion has been one of the most interesting developments in modern cuisine. The LUCKYRICE Feast tour highlights this trend and will make a stop in Houston on October 6 at The Astorian, 2500 Summer. Hosted by Oxheart’s Justin Yu, the dinner will showcase reimagined Asian classics in new ways.  Passes are available for purchase at Ticketfly.

The LUCKYRICE festival opened this June in New York City, and has made rounds along the West Coast. It will come to Houston before making its final stop in Miami.  Founded by Danielle Chang, it has been an annual event in other cities for seven years. It features large, festive dinners which highlight Chang's passion for Asian food, heritage and culture. The name LUCKYRICE is a “fun play on words,” Chang says. “Rice is the foundation for most Asian cuisine and many spices and ingredients have symbolism attached, such as luck."

Houston is actually close to Chang's heart: she immigrated to Houston from Taipei at age five and explains that Houston’s diverse cultural landscape is the perfect backdrop for the event.

Several local chefs will participate in the Houston feast and include contributions from local favorites such as Wooster’s Garden, Underbelly, Uchi, Kuu, Izakaya and others. These chefs were chosen by the LUCKYRICE culinary council for their reputations as artists who are passionate about reinventing authentic recipes and fusing them with global flavors and ingredients.

The celebration isn't limited to food. There will also be a variety of beer and Asian-inspired libations featuring Bombay Sapphire East gin. One gin will be infused with citrusy lemongrass and spicy Vietnamese peppercorns. Other drinks will incorporate Eastern flavors such as kaffir lime, chilies and curry spice.

Chang promises a fun, sophisticated evening that is “unlike anything that has taken place in Houston before.” Some example dishes from past LUCKYRICE events include pastrami egg rolls and cheeseburger dumplings.

Interested diners should visit Tickefly for availability and ticket purchases. General admission starts at $88, while VIP tickets are $150.
