This Week in Houston Food Events: Get Your Hands on a Flamin' Hot Cheetos Mac 'n Cheese Burger

Field Trip Specials at Bernie’s Burger Bus


Bernie’s Burger Bus, 5407 Bellaire, 2643 Commercial Center, 2200 Yale, is dropping limited-time specials on Tuesday, November 27 and running for at least a few weeks. Pop by to try the Field Trip Burger featuring Flamin’ Hot Cheeto mac ’n cheese buns, three-ounce patties, double cheese, pecan smoked bacon, Tabasco onions and hot sauce; the Field Trip Fries layered with chorizo green chili queso and aged white cheddar and topped with house spicy guac’, hot sauce and green onions; and the Cajeta Caramel Cheesecake Shake finished with whipped cream and toasted streusel topping.

December Pastry of the Month at Café Poêtes

Café Poêtes, 122 West Gray, has announced its December pastry of the month: the Tarte Tatine. A signature dessert of France, the upside-down pastry will be made with apples, salted caramel and Madagascar vanilla bean. The dish is available for pre-order for $10.50 and will available throughout the month. And in celebration of National Cake Day on Monday, November 26, the café will offer a special cake size of the Tarte Tatin.

King’s BierHaus, 2044 East T C Jester, has released its Winter Menu specials, including Oma’s Chicken Soup, Shepherd’s Pie, Vienna Goulash, Bangers & Mash and the Hungarian Gypsy Stew. The winter drink menu get into the holiday spirit with everything from King’s Whiskey (aged and infused in-house with apples, local honey and cinnamon) and housemade Glühwein to Berlin Eggnog and four winter biers. King’s will also continue to give every customer a free glass of Glühwein every Wednesday; and Hans’ Insane Gift Card Promotion begins on Friday, November 30. Buy one gift card, get another for 50-percent of the value (ex: if you buy a $100 gift card, you’ll get a $50 gift card for free).

Gigantic Beer Dinner at The Pass


The Pass, 807 Taft, will be hosting a Gigantic Beer Dinner, featuring six beers and five courses of food for $75 per person, beginning at 7 p.m. The lineup of beers includes Kölschtastic, Gigantic IPA, Ginormous IIPA MK7, Sassy Pony Pale Ale, The Deep imp oatmeal stout and Massive! BBA Barleywine.

Thursday Night Takeover with chef Adam Dorris at Fluff Bake Bar

While Presidio is closed for repairs from its recent fire damage, chef Adam Dorris will be popping into kitchens around town to help raise funds for hourly wage employees that are temporarily out of a job. Stop by Fluff Bake Bar, 314 Gray, to support the cause from 6 to 9 p.m.

Holiday Brunch with Santa at Brennan’s of Houston

Brennan’s of Houston, 3300 Smith, will be hosting a Holiday Brunch with Santa ($35 per child, price TBA for adults) from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will include a two-course brunch with a dessert bar, photos with Santa, and a keepsake ornament for the adults and interactive ornament for children. Seating is limited. For reservations, call 713-522-9711. 

Brunch with Santa at Phoenicia Specialty Foods Downtown

The entire family can enjoy a special Brunch with Santa at Phoenicia Specialty Foods Downtown, 1001 Austin. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting MKT Bar and taking photos with the little ones. Guests can also expect Yuletide brunch specials like gingerbread chicken and waffles, children’s holiday cookie decorating kits, classic holiday cartoons on the big screen and a visit from the Houston Fire Department for its Operation: Stocking Stuffer Toy Drive. New unwrapped toys encouraged. The event is free and open to the public, with options to purchase food.

Tamale Festival Houston at Guadalupe Plaza Park

Kick off the holiday season with live music, good times, cold drinks and plenty of tamales at Tamale Festival Houston, taking place at Guadalupe Plaza Park, 2311 Runnels, from noon to 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 pre-sale, $10 regular and $75 for VIP. The event is rain or shine.

4th Annual Christmas with Krampus Smackdown at Eureka Heights Brew Co

It’s time for the annual holiday celebration at Eureka Heights Brew Co, 941 West 18th, taking place at the brewery from 1 to 5 p.m. The family-friendly Christmas with Krampus event features holiday-themed wrestling bouts, food trucks, vendors, holiday photos with Santa and Krampus, a silent auction, raffle and bake sale, and beer, of course. Donate $5 (cash or card) to enjoy all the fun lined up.

My Big FAT Greek Sunday Dinner at Helen in the Heights

Head to Helen in the Heights, 1111 Studewood, to partake in a special “My Big FAT Greek Sunday Dinner” beginning at 6 p.m. Guests can expect five Greek dishes served family-style for $50 per guest, plus an optional wine pairing for $25.
