New York Times: Houston is getting all the national love this week. After being called "Texas's best and most diverse food city" by Andrew Knowlton in Bon Appétit, it's getting a spotlight from none other than The Gray Lady herself. The New York Times noted our sprawling Chinatown over the weekend and followed some of the city's best chefs as they visited their favorite Bellaire Boulevard bistros.
29-95: Itching to hear more about the restaurant that Eater called one of the 33 most anticipated restaurant openings of the year? Greg Morago has a sneak preview of The Pass & Provisions, the tag-team restaurant from Seth Siegel-Gardner and Terrence Gallivan that's opening in the old Gravitas/Antone's space this fall.
L'histoire de sa vie: Did you know that Crave Sushi offers a burger? And not just any burger, but a "Kobe" burger? That it claims is the best in town? Nathan put that claim to the test last week and found that the burger was actually damn good -- "definitely better than their sushi."
CultureMap: There isn't much to eat around the Museum District, which is just one reason that Jade Cafe inside the new Asia Society Texas Center is so welcome in the area. Another reason, says Sarah Rufca: the "gourmet light American fare -- soups, salads and sandwiches -- with subtle Asian twists," served in a serene setting.
Eater Houston: Former Eater Houston editor Amber Ambrose is now doing food segments for Fox 26, the latest of which featured Kris Bistro at the Culinary Institute LeNôtre. Writing about the segment, Eric Sandler rightfully calls the bistro a "a gourmet experience at a discount."
The Woodlands Eats: TWE visits Black Walnut Cafe, one of the most popular dining spots in The Woodlands, and finds a few nits to pick about the grilled chicken sandwich -- but not the hummingbird cake for dessert.
Patty and David Said: The best part of Houston Restaurant Weeks each year -- apart from donating to the Houston Food Bank, clearly -- is the opportunity to try new restaurants at a low price. Patty and David visited Artisans for one of their HRW meals and came away very impressed with the lobster, steak and chocolate mousse the French restaurant offered for only $35.
