Upcoming Houston Food Events: Sundown at The Grove Returns

The Root to Leaf Dinner at Underbelly, 1100 Westheimer, is coming up on Monday, June 29 at 7 p.m. The multi-course feast – hosted in honor of Chef Steven Satterfield’s cookbook, Root to Leaf – features dishes inspired by recipes in Satterfield’s cookbook, which celebrates seasonal produce and Southern cuisine. Tickets ($175 per person) are available for purchase and include food, wine, and a signed copy of the cookbook.

On Wednesday, July 1, the summer series Sundown at the Grove returns to Discovery Green’s The Grove, 1611 Lamar. Every Wednesday through September 9, head to the restaurant’s picturesque treetop patio from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. to enjoy delectable bites paired with beer and wine created by the sous chef team, led by Chef De Cuisine Ryan Williams. The price of admission to Sundown is $20 per person and your ticket includes entry into the event, a flight of craft beer or two glasses of wine, and food pairings. New this year, guests can purchase a season pass for $250 per person, or $450 per couple, providing guaranteed entry each week, free valet parking, automatic entry into each week’s giveaway, and a $50 gift card to the Grove.

JCI Grill’s final Funky Dog, created by chef Randy Evans, will debut at all 20 James Coney Island locations on Wednesday, July 1. The Greek-inspired “Opa Dog” features a locally-produced lamb sausage from Black Hill Meats served in a toasted onion bun with lettuce, cucumber, red onion, tomato and Kalamata olives, all topped with Feta cheese and Tzatziki sauce. The Funky Dog, which would have made Helen kiss off Troy and stay in Greece, sells for $5.29.
If you're looking for a great place to enjoy Independence Day Eve, look no further than Saint Arnold Brewery, 2000 Lyons. On Friday, July 3 from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., enjoy a special all-you-can-handle lunch buffet, featuring chopped brisket, bratwurst, chicken legs, baked beans, potato salad, broccoli salad and apple cobbler.
