Upcoming Houston Food Events: The Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair Is Almost Here

Yellow Rose Distilling, 1224 North Post Oak, is raising a glass to charity by introducing the Thur Mix A Lot guest bartender series. Every Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. throughout April and May, visitors can sip and support local nonprofits as their favorite mixologists put a spin on whiskey cocktails. The program will conclude on May 28, when a jury will determine the best drink of the series. A portion of proceeds will be split among eight nonprofits, and the final evening's take will be allocated to the winning bartender's charity of choice. Admission is $7 and includes a tour, plus five Yellow Rose product pours. Featured drinks, as well as a selection of signature cocktails, are priced at $6 each.
Get ready to indulge in fantastic fare, sensational spirits and some of the finest wines around. This year's Sugar Land Wine & Food Affair runs Wednesday, April 8 through Sunday, April 12. More than 2,600 bottles of wine will be poured, tasted and paired at the five-day fun-filled event, which includes events like the New Amsterdam Vodka On the Rocks Bartenders Challenge, held on Thursday, April 9 and The Grand Tasting, held on Friday, April 10. Tickets to all events can be purchased in advance.
On Thursday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m., Mockingbird Bistro, 1985 Welch, will be hosting a Martell Cognac Dinner with brand ambassador Jean-Jacques Renault. Enjoy passed hors d'oeuvres and four-courses, featuring elegant dishes like asparagus soufflé with jumbo lump crab and paddlefish caviar and filet mignon with foie gras and cognac. Head to the Pearland Crawfish Festival at Pearland Parks & Recreation Center Grounds, 4141 Bailey, on Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 12. The family-friendly event will feature spicy, Cajun-style crawfish in addition to tons of other great food and drinks, live zydeco and blues, games, carnival rides, arts and crafts, and more. Admission is free until 3 p.m. on Friday and $8 per adult when bought at the festival (or $21 for a three-day pass). Advance tickets can be purchased for $6 (or $16 for a three-day pass). Children 12 and under and active military are free.
The annual Brenner's Wine Fest will take place at Brenner's on the Bayou, 1 Birdsall , on Saturday, April 11 from 3 to 6 p.m. Head to the picturesque lawn to sip elite wines from more than 20 wineries and to savor bites from Houston's top chefs, like chargrilled oysters on the half shell, seafood risotto and pork belly sliders (to name a few). Tickets are $65 pre-sale and $75 day of, with VIP experience available for $125.
Celebrate Puffy Taco Tax Day at D&T Drive Inn, 1307 Enid, on Wednesday, April 15 at 6 p.m. The beer bar will be serving up delicious puffy tacos -- two for $6 -- that pair perfectly with suds from San Antonio's Busted Sandal Brewing Co. RSVP for free online.
