HBO Championship Boxing: Donaire vs Arce

One week after Mexican welterweight Juan Manuel Marquez knocked out Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao, two more boxers from each of those countries took the ring for the HBO Championship Boxing event at Toyota Center on Saturday, December 15 2012. Rising star Nonito Donaire, nicknamed "The Filipino Flash", took on Mexican legend Jorge "El Travieso" Arce in front of a heavily Hispanic audience. After a knock down in the second round, Arce returned strong in the third but was caught by a powerful left hook by Donaire leading to a knockout. The loss lead to the retirement of the Mexican boxer after an illustrious 17 year career. This would also mark as the last fight for commentator Larry Merchant after 35 years of being a boxing commentator on HBO. PHOTOS BY MARCO TORRES
