“Reality TV is pretty ridiculous. The only thing left to do in the genre is to make fun of it,” says Jarrod Gullett, the senior producer at Houston’s Zenfilm. To that end, the company has created “anti-reality show” Get Out! Of The Closet! “It’s a comedy, a parody,” says Gullett. An Internet series that the creators also screen around town, Get Out! follows host Natty Ice, who travels the country helping gay men and women come out of the closest, intervention-style. The fact that none of these people are actually gay doesn’t deter Natty, who won’t take no for an answer. She studies the suspected gays’ apartments for evidence of their gayness (finding phallic symbols, glittery objects and hunky male action toys everywhere). She also encourages them to indulge their wish for fussy meals and tight, expensive clothing as well as excessive grooming. The show centers on homosexuals, but Gullett assures us that it’s meant for anyone with a sense of humor and a thick skin. “It’s not tame. It definitely pushes the boundaries of people’s comfort level,” he says. Three episodes are in the can and more are to follow, which can regularly be seen on the show’s Web site. But you can see Get Out! Of the Closet! today at 8 p.m. Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main. For information, call 713-528-5858 or visit www.getoutofthecloset.tv. Free.
