Peat Duggins created some alternative monks for “St. Bonifaceยs Last Days.” The exhibit explores the life of fictitious holy men through artificial relics, paintings and video. The relics include robes made of felt oak leaves and the paintings of animals eating animals eating animals. In the video, the viewer observes a ceremonial time for the monks. “They crown one of their own…and that one ends up going from animated woods to actual woods…and gets on a bus,” explains Duggins. “Then the bus kind of blows itself up into leaves and butterflies and birds and deer and all these kind of animated animals.” Sounds intense, but Duggins assures us, this is no “Recycle! Reuse! Reduce!” ploy. “I would be horrified if this came off as some eco-morality tale,” says Duggins. Opening reception 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 10.
