Twelve-year-old Mary Claire Ganucheau’s quarter-horse Lindsey tried to return to normal yesterday after her evacuation, along with 55 other horses, from the Southern Breeze center in Fresno. Mary Claire, her brother John, and their mother Lisa pitched in to clean up debris strewn across the property. Owner Cathy Strobel said damage included a flooded indoor arena – “It was a swimming pool,” she said. “We had to pump it.”
She also said the center’s running low on feed, and 60 to 80 bails of hay were destroyed.
But most important, all the horses were evacuated Thursday night; most went to an equestrian center in Katy. Strobel said it took about four trips to move all the animals.
Lisa Ganucheau said she was grateful for the staff’s dedication to the horses.
“We’re all so grateful, so fortunate, to have such a great staff caring for these horses,” she said.
