ย“It is our understanding that nobody shows emergingย…clay artists ย— not in the Houston area and not anywhere else,ย” says Janis Ross, president of the Clay Arts Museum and Educational Organization. The ย“Emerging Artist 2007ย” exhibit is CAMEOย’s solution to that problem. Around 15 young artists, university and college students from across the Houston area are participating in the show, exhibiting some 25 pieces. This yearย’s Peopleย’s Choice winner is Megan Posey, who submitted a tall vase known simply as ย“Number 11.ย” ย“Itย’s very subtle,ย” says Ross, ย“and itย’s very interesting to me that this won, because there were certainly other more exuberant pieces. She has drawn faces and writing on it ย— itย’s covered all over with images ย— but they are very subtle. You almost canย’t see them.
