Nursing a cold and sporting a slight fever, I left work early and decided to self-medicate at Molly’s Pub (11128 Westheimer, 713-789-9580). It was mid-ยญafternoon, and the good ole boys at this classic Irish pub were in full swing, nary a good ole girl in sight. I parked myself right dab in the middle of the bar and ordered up a Molly’s Toddy from John, a 26-year Pub veteran and Marcus Welby look-alike. Nobody waits for a drink when John is behind the bar, and before I knew it, a dose of warm bourbon was in front of me. The toddy didn’t really help my cold, but it definitely improved my mood. I decided to conduct an imยญpromptu poll of my bar mates, because inquiring minds want to know which jobs enable you to get juiced up before 4ย p.m. Most of my gray-haired buddies were in sales of some type or another and didn’t seem too concerned about quotas. They put up with my questions in a sweet way, but were a little more interested in the next round of drinks and jokes. I decided to have my next one at home. As I said farewell, I wondered: Where could I get me one of them sales jobs?
1 1/2 ounce Sunny Brook bourbon
Splash of water
3 lemon wedges
1 packet real sugar (not the pink or blue stuff)
Mix all ingredients in a glass coffee cup. Put in the microwave until you see steam, and breathe deep.
