“Every brass player loves beer,” Alecia Lawyer tells us. We don’t have any scientific proof of that, but we’re willing to take Lawyer, founder and artistic director of the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra, at her word. The group’s annual Beer & Brass event, held at Saint Arnold Brewing Company, will have plenty of both brass players and beer, should anyone want to test her theory. The concert is designed to be accessible to the classical music neophyte; the program is filled with ROCO violist Lorento Golofeev’s arrangements of beer-hall music for the occasion, including Strauss polkas and German folk tunes. As always, concertgoers enjoy open taps and light food during the concert. This year’s event differs from the usual Beer & Brass format because a ROCO string quintet joins the brass section for several songs. We’re waiting to hear from Lawyer as to whether or not every string player loves beer, too. We’re going to guess they do.
Join ROCO at 6 p.m. Saint Arnold Brewing Company, 2000 Lyons Avenue. For information, visit rocohouston.org. $35.
