Come on, you knew it was coming. It was only a matter of time before someone created Gilliganยs Island the Musical. After all, Gilligan and his pals aboard the ill-fated SS Minnow are some of the most syndicated characters in television history. We just canยt get enough of the skipper and the gang. Now, thanks to UpStage Theatre, we can see them once again, this time with a musical score.
While nothing all that new happens in this latest incarnation of the island story, there is a quirky twist that takes us back to the shipwreckยs beginning. Thereยs the usual trouble with hurricanes and quicksand, but things take a sudden jog to the left when the group has to save the planet from a UFO.
Wait a minute, if these knuckleheads can talk to extraterrestrials, maybe they can find a way off that damn island once and for all. See if they escape at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through June 28. Lambert Hall, 1703 Heights Boulevard. For tickets and information, call 713-838-7191 or visit www.upstagetheatre.org. $20.
