When the Texas Library Association meets this week at the George R. Brown Convention Center, the whole city of Houston will get a bit more kid-lit-friendly. A group of novelists for the junior high set will discuss and sign their books during Five Fabulous Authors for Kids at the Blue Willow Bookshop. “When the TLA comes to town, we get the benefit of hosting debut authors and bestselling authors, from Chris D’Lacey, who writes riveting dragon chronicles, to Augusta Scattergood, who has written a lovely story of friendship overshadowed by racism,” says Blue Willow’s Valerie Koehler.

The other authors appearing are Michael Northrop, Sarah Mylnowski and Jennifer A. Nielsen. So if your middle-schooler is Hunger Gamed and Harry Pottered out, no worries — there are plenty more page-turning scribes out there to discover. 7 p.m. 14532 Memorial Dr. For information, call 281-497-8675 or visit www.bluewillowbookshop.com. Free, but you must purchase at least one new book to get in the signing line.
