Artist El Franco Lee II shows local hip-hop legend DJ Screw as he might be in an idyllic afterlife — with six arms scratching on multiple turntables, a posse of friends around him — in DJ Screw in Heaven. The painting is one of several Lee is contributing to the ”You Are Here” art exhibit. The show’s organizers asked four artists — Lee, photographers Chuy Benitez and Divya Murthy and installation artist Coolidge — for works that reflect the ever-changing nature of Houston.
Lee shows the late DJ Screw again in a second piece, DJ Screw Montage, a collection of six views of the former Houstonian amidst images representative of his life, screws, cassette tapes, a row house, a Cullen Boulevard street sign and turntables.
