Claes Oldenburg often incorporates images from everyday life into his artwork. ”Claes Oldenburg: Strange Eggs” at The Menil Collection features 18 collages the Swedish-born American artist completed at an important juncture in his career, when he moved from New York City to Chicago in 1956. Fragments of images from newspapers and magazines โ a horseโs leg, a tree branch, a piece of pie โ are incorporated into experimental collages that hinted at Oldenburgโs provocative later work.
