Generations of kids grew up listening to classical music on Bugs Bunny cartoons (how else would any of us know Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, a.k.a. The Da-Da-Da-Dum song?). These days kids grow up listening to the symphonic sounds of sci-fi blockbuster films and video games (hummed the Legend of Zelda theme song lately?). The Houston Symphony’s Sounds Like Fun! concert series lets kids see just how such pulse-pounding music is made. The selections in this year’s free family performance include John Williams’s Star Wars Suite, the jaw-dropping excitement of Dvorak’s ”Carnival Overture” and the engaging narrated masterpiece that is Russell Peck’s ”The Thrill of the Orchestra” Thereโ€™s also an instrument petting zoo on display, allowing kids to ”meet” the orchestra instruments.
