We have some great commenters here on Hair Balls, and it’s time we paid some damn attention to them.
So we’ll be highlighting a Comment of the Day each morning, from the previous day’s work. Maybe two comments, even.
This will all be determined by a highly rigorous scientific formula involving wit, clarity and whatever else we feel like at the moment.
We wrote about how tow-truck drivers in Houston have a very, very loose (and most likely wrong) interpretation of the laws on such things as to whether they can break into your car as they tow it.

I once parked on Shepherd – in a spot that I thought was totally fine – by Ruchi’s for literally 5min (we decided the wait was too long there) and by the time I got back to my car, it was on the back of a tow truck. I raced over to the guy and told him I was leaving, had no idea I “couldn’t” park there (still didn’t see any signs), and that I’d only been there 5min. His response: “I know. I watched you park.”
“And you didn’t say anything??”
“Please, sweetheart. That ain’t my job. Tell you what: it’s $160 if I take it to the impound but for $80 in cash, I’ll let it down right now.”
He literally drove me to an ATM across the street so that I could withdraw cash for him. Institutionalized mugging – that’s all it is.
