Today’s musical mental mindfuck comes to us courtesy of Mick Cullen of Subterranean Radio, who suggested we might enjoy a new song from Chromeo. Chromeo is possibly the only successful Arab/Jew funk duo in the world, and they lay down some extremely danceable tracks that are without a doubt more hip than anything us non-Chromeoans are capable of producing.
Their new album, Business Casual, drops on September 10, and to promote it they have put together a video that is really invested in eyeballs. “Don’t Turn the Lights On” involves our heroes jamming in their creepy, Ivo Shandor-designed loft. The lights continue to go in and out, illuminating only their eyes and mouths, but the imagery grows more and more bizarre.
One minute, guitarist Dave 1 holds a mandolin, then a fish. The room behind them has a party, then an old man in a bath tub. Meanwhile, Dave’s eyeballs detach themselves and wander around the city looking up girl’s skirts until they end up getting licked by a Frrench Bulldog.
Don’t let the weirdness distract you, though. “Don’t Turn the Lights On” is a fresh, funky little tune that is sure to remove the underwear of all in the immediate vicinity.
