You don’t have to wait for the upcoming Q-Fest 2014: The 18th Annual Houston International GBLT-Q Film Festival screenings to get a look at this year’s offerings of films. The SWAMP Salon Q-Fest 2014 Sneak is screening clips from most of the festival. This year’s Q-Fest is titled Sweetest Taboos; it’s an erotic shorts program co-curated by Kristian Salinas, festival director, and Sarah Beall, curator of the website, makelovenotporn.com.

โ€œSweetest Taboos will feature seminal works by the likes of James Broughton and Curt MacDowell, both in 16mm,โ€ Salinas tells us. [And] โ€œmore contemporary works by Elisha Lim, Iris Moore and Houstonian Camillo Rojas, as well as works by adult performer Lilly Cade and the stars of makelovenotporn.com.

โ€œSweetest Taboos was inspired by the success of our screening last year of Kyle Henry’s racy and raunchy Fourplay. What โ€ฆ I loved about Kyle’s film was its sex-positive approach to its risque subject matter that allowed for both humor and intimacy to share time on the screen. It’s our goal to shake away the stigma erotica and porn often carry. The fact is hardcore erotica was an essential component of the earliest queer film festivals. Broughton, MacDowell, and Barbara Hammer were expressing their sexuality explicitly, artistically, and honestly in the early days.โ€
