Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series: Deborah Eisenberg and Antonya Nelson

Antonya Nelson, named by The New Yorker as one of the “twenty young fiction writers for the new millennium,” is a familiar face on the Houston literary scene. Along with being well-known for her novels and short-story collections, she holds the Cullen Chair in Creative Writing at the University of Houston (a position she shares with her husband, Robert Boswell). When she takes the stage at the Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series: Deborah Eisenberg and Antonya Nelson, she’ll be discussing Funny Once, her most recent collection of short stories. Booklist said, “Nelson excels at multi-generational chaos” and called her “scandalously funny.” Much of her work focuses on the irony of life’s cruel jokes, with divorce, addiction, deception and old age as frequent topics.
Nelson appears with short-story author Deborah Eisenberg, a MacArthur Foundation “genius” fellowship winner. Eisenberg was called “one of the most important fiction writers now at work” by The New York Times Book Review.
