We hope someone starts slapping greenbacks down around here. For now, the @HiddenCash meme is in San Antonio.
The viral Twitter account @HiddenCash, started by a purported rich real-estate developer in San Francisco, has spawned an offshoot in Texas.
@HiddenCashTexas, followed by more than 5,000 accounts, joined Twitter May 29, and has since made clear in tweets that cash drops will only be made in the Alamo City.
So I’ve been thinking, guys…. I think I’m going to keep this for San Antonio and surrounding areas.

The original @HiddenCash philanthropist started giving away money, normally $60-$200, in late May. The Twitter account’s bio describes the cash drop-offs as “an anonymous social experiment for good.” As such, @HiddenCash tweeted yesterday that it’d give away cash to the first ten people who “tweet a photo of them doing something nice for someone.” The account retweeted pictures of people donating toys, giving blood and training a nun in a gym (seriously).

@HiddenCash, which has over 440,000 followers on Twitter, tweeted June 2 it had no problem with copycat accounts.
If you are going to copy our idea, great, as long as you do it responsibly and for the right reasons. And this week we are only here in SF.

But @HiddenCashTexas differs from the original account in more than just location.
The owner of the account told the San Antonio Express-News, “I saw what he was doing for people in CA and thought that I would try to do the same here. I’m not leading people on for the heck of it. I’m doing it. Exactly what he does. Not as much money because I’m obviously not a millionaire.”
I’m a normal hard working person just like everyone else. I work almost 60 hours a week. I’m blessed indeed. And I WILL share when I can.

@HiddenCashTexas has a gofundme.com page linked in its biography, so people can donate to the Texas hidden cash cause. The page opened three days ago, and has raised no money. It has a listed goal of $1,000.
@HiddenCashTexas tweeted Wednesday that clues for its first cash drop — scheduled for June 5 — were coming later in the day.
At some point, everyone has to put their money where their tweeting thumbs are.
