Best Bánh Mì: Khang Vietnamese Sandwich & Cafe

We don’t take any sandwich lightly around here, particularly the Vietnamese bánh mì, which is nearly as culturally significant to Houston as barbecue or Tex Mex, thanks to a large and thriving Vietnamese population. So, when we say this might be the best bánh mìs we have ever eaten, you best believe it.

Khang, like so many great Asian offerings in Houston, is in a rather nondescript shopping center on Bellaire in Asia Town. The interior is simple with a big board of sandwiches (nearly 30 of them!) and a few other select Vietnamese items like spring rolls. All of the sandwiches here are rich and delicious, served on a fresh baguette that is the perfect amount of crusty and soft. Unlike many bánh mìs we have tried, this does not skimp on the sauce, making these sandwiches particularly decadent. They are all worth trying, but start with the barbecue pork or the stir fry beef, which is like shaking beef on a roll. At just five bucks, you can order more for later.
