Every week the streaming world gets a little more crowded, but a few titles always find a way to stand above the rest. This week one fan favorite makes its long awaited return while another highly anticipated thriller arrives with plenty of buzz.
One of television’s most beloved comedies is officially back. Ted Lasso returns for its fourth season on Apple TV with Jason Sudeikis reprising his Emmy-winning role as the endlessly optimistic American football-now-English football coach. Co-created by Sudeikis alongside Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly, the new season finds Ted taking on his biggest challenge yet as the head coach of AFC Richmond’s women’s team. This is almost a bonus season as the fourth entry into the series wasn’t always promised, but Lasso’s character and Tom Selleck-level mustache demanded a return to Apple TV.
Returning alongside Sudeikis are Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift, bringing back the cast that helped turn Ted Lasso into a global phenomenon and it is streaming now.
If you are looking for something much darker, FX is debuting The Shards, the new psychological thriller from Ryan Murphy, who most recently brought us the Kim Kardashian-led All’s Fair. Based on Bret Easton Ellis’ bestselling novel of the same name Set in 1981 Los Angeles, the story follows high school senior Bret (Igby Rigney,), whose world is upended after the arrival of the mysterious new student Robert Mallory, portrayed by Homer Gere, as a serial killer known as The Trawler stalks the city.
The series also stars Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, Graham Campbell, Wes Bentley, and Evan Rachel Wood, giving Murphy another talented ensemble to bring his stylish and suspenseful storytelling to life. The Shards looks poised to be one of the year’s most social new series.
