12th Annual Dance Houston Festival

The 12th Annual Dance Houston Festival is a good way to experience the city’s legions of happy feet. The concert is an open-door line-up of Houston contemporary and world dance companies performing flamenco, contemporary ballet and Mexican folklórico as well as dances from West Africa and the Middle East. This year’s roster of 21 ensembles includes contemporary jazz company Revolve, hip-hop crew The Riot Squad and the Chinese folk fusion of Dance of Asian America. The annual festival introduces its audience to an array of local dance groups and gives presenting organizations the opportunity to showcase their work and become known on a large scale. Last year’s festival provided the group Sonkiss’d Dance Theater with one of its first public platforms, and this year the young company returns with a work that features all its signature elements. “The piece we’re presenting in the festival this year will be a smooth blend of live poetry, live painting, contemporary dance and street dance, all performed together in a seamless five-minute performance,” says Chris Thomas, the group’s artistic director.”
