2010 Academy Award Nominated Short Films

Be in the know when the Oscar winners for best short film are announced this year by attending the 2010 Academy Award Nominated Short Films screenings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The films are divided into three programs — live action, animated and documentary. Among the animated films audiences will see is Day & Night, by Teddy Newton for Disney’s Pixar studio. Combining 2D and 3D elements, the short follows the adventures of two characters, Day and Night. Day is a day scene with a sun at its center, Night a night scene with a moon at its center. When Day is happy, there’s a rainbow inside him. When Night is happy, there are fireworks inside him. The two meet and start to fight, but eventually become friends, with Day turning into night and Night becoming day. (Everybody go “ahhhh.”) See the animated program today at 8 p.m. 1001 Bissonnet. For a full schedule, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org/films. $6 to $7.
Fri., Feb. 11, 7 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 12, 1 & 6 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 19, 6 p.m., 2011
