37th Annual Houston World Series of Dog Shows

While cute cat videos tend to rule the Internet, their canine competitors aren’t taking it sitting down, so as part of this year’s 37th Annual Houston World Series of Dog Shows, organizers are asking you to nominate your favorite funny/cute/heartwarming dog videos from YouTube to be compiled for special screenings. Other attractions at the show — which should draw more than 40,000 attendees to NRG Park — include a large vendor mall with everything for dogs from toys and food to collars and embarrassing outfits (trust us, your dog really does not want to wear Spandex).

Dogs will also compete in athletic events including obedience, flyball, agility, Frisbee dogs and something called “Canine Musical Freestyle.” Returning as well is the popular “Meet the Breeds” program, in which potential pooch owners can get info on all types of dogs from experts, and pet health seminars. And you can see if your mutt has the makings of a Hollywood career in the Your Dog Can Be A Star photo contest. Finally, art programs include an exhibition of dog paintings by Houston-area students, and a Designer Doghouse competition.

Go to the dogs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. NRG Center (formerly Reliant Center), 1 Reliant Park. For information, call 713-629-3700 or visit houstondogshows.com. Free to $15. ($10 cash parking fee per vehicle.)
