Stage Door, Inc. has a talent for putting interesting twists on popular and familiar theatrical properties. Last year the company gave us a wonderful production of Sweeney Todd with a steampunk theme. Now Marc Glover, Stage Door’s artistic director, has added a steampunk theme to the perennial holiday--season classic A Christmas Carol, the heartwarming parable of the miser Ebenezer Scrooge finding repentance and salvation.
“Steampunk” is defined by Urban Dictionary as “what the past would look like if the future had happened sooner.” In the hands of Glover and company, it likely means incorporating industrial objects into the costumes and sets along with other mechanical elements. Glover says, “This is a show that will delight your family during the holiday season, staged as only Stage Door, Inc. can do it.”
