Find out why the Russian Cultural Center is considered one of Houston’s hidden gems at
A Musical Evening with Maestro Hans Graf. Former music director and conductor laureate of Houston Symphony, Graf returns to the podium to lead the orchestra in a performance of works by Ravel and Debussy (that concert’s coming up October 25). But before he takes the stage at Jones Hall with the Symphony, he’ll be making an appearance at the Russian Cultural Center, presenting members of the International Music Academy in a program of, you guessed it, Ravel and Debussy. Graf starts the evening off with a short presentation about the music about to be played. Then Tomas Jonsson, winner of the Houston Young Artist Competition in 2012 and silver medalist in the 2011 International Chopin Youth Competition, performs Ravel’s Sonatina in F-sharp major. Alina Uddin, a teacher at the academy, performs Debussy’s “Reflets dans l’eau” and “Hommage à Rameau.”
A Musical Evening with Maestro Hans Graf is set for the Russian Cultural Center’s intimate performance hall. This is a rare opportunity for up-close interaction with one of classical music’s biggest stars (think of Graf sitting in your living room, happily chatting about music, and you have an idea of what the evening might be like).
