A/V Geeks: Crafty is as Crafty Does

Time to break out the Popsicle sticks, googly eyes and pipe cleaners...and use them to explain what arts and crafts is to your kids. After that, head on over to the A/V Geeks: Crafty is as Crafty Does, where they'll get schooled, 16mm-style, by the geeks' collection of vintage art lessons from the '50s, '60s and '70s. See sharply dressed, well-manicured kids DIY-ing stamps, three-dimensional scenes, puppets and more. Watch your kids gawk (or beg for their Nintendo DS) as they view hands-on fun that doesn’t come with a controller. (Though we wouldn't be surprised if there's a Wii title where you construct a virtual cornhusk doll.) There will be plenty of supplies available to get creative with after the lights come up. Before you bring your daughter to the family-friendly screening, check out the A/V Geeks' Naughty Girls at 8 p.m. Saturday (Houston Skyline Studio, 1111 Hutchins) and learn about her future. 3 p.m. HITS Theatre, 311 W. 18th Street. For information, call 713-868-2101 or visit www.aurorapictureshow.org. $5 to $10.
