Ace of Skates

See Ace. See Ace run. See where Ace runs...and go there. It's all part of what you'd expect from local guerrilla-theater company BooTown. The troupe's latest offering, Ace of Skates, has audiences literally following a 12-year-old boy on his epic skateboard journey to run an errand for his parents. Scenes take place at different venues in a centralized area, including the Aurora Picture Show offices and the Menil Collection Bookstore. "I think it'd be really silly to do it in a theater, with him skateboarding around [the stage]," artistic director Emily Hynds says. Ace's quest is interrupted when he runs into a homeless woman, a baker and a voodoo priestess. Will he master the art of excusing himself and reach the final destination before his street-light curfew? Find out at 7 p.m. today and September 24. The play starts at Catastrophic Theatre Company, 1540 Sul Ross. For information, visit www.bootown.org. Pay-what-you-will (and get a free popsicle).
