Ali Siddiq

After 15 years of honing his craft on the road, Ali Siddiq is returning to his old stomping grounds with a one-night stand at the Houston Improv on February 27. Before Siddiq shared the stage with some of the country’s funniest touring comedians (Kevin Hart, D.L. Hughley, Katt Williams, Dave Chappelle and Cedric the Entertainer, to name a few), he got his start as a stand-up in federal prison. He spent six years as a guest of the state beginning when he was 19. Prison, he’s said, prepared him for a career as a comedian. It seems prisoners make a tough audience. Since his release, Siddiq has yet to stop working on his craft. His television credits include four seasons of BET’s Comic View, HBO’s Def Comedy Jam and Showtime’s Chocolate Sundaes, among countless others.

8 p.m. 7620 Katy Freeway. For information, call 713-333-8800 or visit improvhouston.org. $20 to $30.

KEEP THE HOUSTON PRESS FREE... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Vic covers the comedy scene, in Houston and beyond. When not writing articles, he's working on his scripts, editing a podcast, doing some funny make-em-ups or preaching the good word of supporting education in the arts.
