Andie Ryan: Shakedown

For a while there, Houston was in serious contention for the title of corporate-greed capital of the world. We've since slipped a bit in the ratings, but not so much that readers won't recognize Andie Ryan's debut thriller Shakedown. In it, corporate exec Tom Hollister uncovers what seems to be a miscalculation concerning employee benefits. Actually, the supposed mistake is the tip of a massive insider trading iceberg, and Hollister's soon facing a knot of murder, double crosses, conspiracies and, oh damn, love with the wrong woman. Referencing AMC's Mad Men, Ryan calls her hero "a Don Draper for our post-Enron times." Andie Ryan will read from and sign Shakedown at 7 p.m. Katy Budget Books, 2450 Fry Road.
