Annual Summer Concert: A Juneteenth Celebration

It’s Juneteenth, baby, and that means parades, picnics and a whole lot of music. Among the various performances and shows, Houston Ebony Opera Guild is celebrating with their Annual Summer Concert: A Juneteenth Celebration. This year’s theme is African American Spirituals: The Tradition Renewed. Conductor A. Jan Taylor will lead the Houston Ebony Opera Guild Chorus through a program that features fresh arrangements of standard spirituals along with contemporary works by today’s best African-American composers, including Adolphus Hailstork, Andre Thomas and Houstonian Lela Anderson. 4 p.m. Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, 3826 Wheeler. For tickets and information, visit www.houstonebonymusic.org. $5 to $15.
