Aurora Picture Show is accepting through August 1 submissions for the third annual Señorita Cinema, Texas's first all-Latina film festival. With the intention of breaking down Hollywood stereotypes and showcasing the "rich tapestry of different voices, styles, ideas, unique to the Latina experience," the festival, which is co-produced with La Chicana Laundry Pictures, will consider all genres of film, including excerpts from larger works, works in progress, trailers and music videos, as long as they're less than 15 minutes long.
A panel made up of leaders in the Houston film industry, including Executive Director of Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) Mary Lampe and Deputy Director of the Houston Film Commission Alfred Cervantes, will judge the films. Cash prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners, and the winners will also have a chance for their flicks to be broadcast on channel 55.4 KTBU-TV.
A screening of the winning films will take place August 27 at Talento Bilingüe de Houston, 333 S. Jensen. For more information and how to submit films (up to three from each candidate will be accepted), visit www.senoritacinema.com.
