It's not uncommon at all for beers to be aged in bourbon barrels. But tequila barrels? That's much more rare. The folks at Siembre Azul tequila gave Hay Merchant owner and Pastry War partner Kevin Floyd a virgin oak tequila barrel. Floyd Kevin gave the barrel to Saint Arnold Brewing Company, who decided use it for their 20th Anniversary Ale. Now, the elegant, complex barley wine -- whose caramel/toffee base has mixed with notes of pear from the barrel -- will debut on Monday, December 22 at The Pastry War at 5 p.m. This very limited release will be one of the only opportunities to taste this product.
