Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony

Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, with a repetitive four-note motif (that ominous da da da daaa), is Music Director Hans Graf’s choice for opening night of the Houston Symphony’s 2008-2009 season. The Fifth is one of the best-known pieces in Western music (you’ve probably heard it played in a cartoon). The opening-night program also includes a performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano. Guest performers are Jennifer Koh on violin, Sophie Shao on cello and Jeremy Denk on piano. 7:30 p.m. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. $40 to $120.
Sat., Sept. 6, 7:30 p.m., 2008
