Best Chamber Orchestra: Apollo Chamber Players

Without a doubt, the award for best chamber orchestra is rightfully given to Apollo Chamber Players. The group’s season was is nothing short of inspired. It was current, provocative and worked in lockstep with the organization’s mission to connect communities and cultures through globally inspired music. Using the theme of “Silenced Voices,” Apollo explored different, controversial topics of book banning, cancel culture, revisionist practices and muted artists.

The season and performances were, in a word, genius.

What’s more is that the organization goes the extra mile to commission new works and provide an avenue for international artists to gain a local following. And need we mention the quartets prowess at performing at the utmost perfection during every concert?

The quartet also welcomed a new Persian-American violist Aria Cheregosha this season, following a lengthy national search to replace former violist Whitney Bullock, who left to pursue her personal passions. Cheregosha did not skip a beat in picking up where Bullock left off and fit like a glove with the organization’s style and essence … a testament to the strength in all that Apollo does.

All in all, the organization has found its footing and voice in the Houston area (and beyond with their cross-country performances and album sales) and is showing great promise for future years of music-making and connection-building.
