Bollywood Blast 2013

The Bollywood Blast 2013, a performance extravaganza, is subtitled The Magic of Love, and appropriately so. ''For the first time, we are introducing magic into the show, and we mean real magic,'' says Rathna Kumar, Indian Performing Arts Samskriti Houston's artistic director. ''Indian Cinema is turning 100 this year, and Bollywood Blast 2013 is a tribute to the world's largest film industry,'' Kumar continues. Eighty dancers, actors, drummers and a grand wedding scene — basically, all the reliable inclusions of a typical Bollywood movie are featured in the show. ''And since our hero is a magician, there are magic tricks involved,'' Kumar teases. ''But we do not want to give those secrets away.'' The evening features ''Why This Kolaveri,'' a song from the current blockbuster Indian hit film Chennai Express, now playing in select Houston theaters.
