Even if you know very little about Spain's culture and heritage, you know this: The Spanish are an energetic, soulful people who love passion, energy and beauty. Spain's centuries-old flamenco music and dance, which incorporates Gypsy, Indian, Arabic and Jewish influences, will be on display as the Society for the Performing Arts welcomes the Madrid-based
Compañia Flamenco José Porcel.
Guitarists and vocalists will join Porcel and his dancers, who are among the most expert in the world. Bedecked in updated versions of the genre's seductive trademark frills, the troupe will offer a sensual duet, two solos from Porcel and ensemble acts all combining the highly theatrical traditional techniques of flamenco with an ultramodern urban flair. 8 p.m. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-227-4772 or visit www.spahouston.org. $22 to $62.
