Sometimes its hard to believe that the sultry, sexy music of Motown was made in chilly Detroit. Theres something about sweltering summer nights and Motown that they just go together, as will be evident at this weekends concert extravaganza, Dancin in the Street
Motown & More Revue, at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. A spectrum of local dance and singing talents will join BACEMENT, a 23-piece orchestra, led by musical director Samuel Jackson (Samuel E. Jackson, that is). The group will perform songs from soul artists and Motown superstars from the 1950s through the present day, including Ray Charles, the Temptations, Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, the Pointer Sisters and Luther Vandross. If this music could heat up Detroit (average high in May: a wimpy 72), imagine what itll do here. 8:15 p.m. Thursday to Sunday. Miller Outdoor Theatre, 100 Concert Drive, Hermann Park.
