El Gesto en el Momento (The Gesture in the Moment)

Experimental shorts by Colombian filmmakers are the focus of El Gesto en el Momento (The Gesture in the Moment). Colombian native turned Houstonian Camilo Gonzalez, a digital media artist and instructor for Aurora Picture Show, curated the event, choosing from dozens of submissions.

Gonzalez says the inspiration for the event was simple: He wanted to give his countrymen who are working outside of the mainstream, commercial cinema an outlet to show their films, something that is often denied them at home because of the political and economic situations there. One stand-out film is the somber family drama Retrato de una Familia. Participating filmmakers include Juan Manuel Escobar, Victoria Rivera, Adrian Villa and Hugo Marin. 7:30 p.m. Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney.
