Elizabeth Edwards

Sometimes life gives you lemons. Sometimes it gives you a lemon tree. Elizabeth Edwards, attorney and wife of politician John Edwards, got a grove. First, her oldest child died in a car accident in 1996. Then she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, during her husband’s failed run for the Democratic presidential nomination. She survived that bout, but the cancer returned in 2007.

During today’s presentation, Edwards will be reading from her memoir, Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers. The book begins with the moment she found a lump in her breast in 2004 (she’s probably one of the few women who’ve had to clear their mammogram appointment with their Secret Service detail). 7:30 p.m. Wortham Center, Cullen Theater, 501 Texas. For tickets and information, call 832-251-0706 or visit www.progressiveforumhouston.org. $14 to $149.
