Etgar Keret

Some 40 short films have been made based on the works of Israeli writer Etgar Keret, including the stop-animation work $9.99, which will be screened during his presentation today. Geoffrey Rush and Anthony LaPaglia star in the short, an insightful mix of absurdity and self-flagellating humor. People magazine said, "Keret can do more with six...paragraphs than most writers can do in 600 pages," while The New York Times said, "Etgar Keret is a genius..." See if Keret lives up to his reputation during today's talk and screening. 7:30 p.m. Jewish Community Center, 5601 South Braeswood. For information, call 713-551-7255 or visit www.jcchouston.org. $10 to $15.
