Gabriel Iglesias

Though he doesn't attract as much romantic attention from women as Enrique Iglesias (or, for that matter, Julio), the plus-size Gabriel Iglesias (no relation) keeps the ladies laughing. "When women hug me and walk away, they leave an impression," he says of his pillow-like body. "And when I want phone sex, I just have a girl coo the words 'chocolate cake' into the receiver." Appropriate, it seems, for a man who says his cologne "is from the maker of Tres Leches." The native of Long Beach, California, who jokes his mother named him Gabriel because "there were already too many Mexicans named Jesus and Jose," just released a new DVD, I'm Not Fat, I'm Fluffy - Live from El Paso. 8 and 10:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 8 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The Improv, 7620 Katy Freeway. For information, call 713-333-8800 or visit $30 to $65.
Thursdays-Sundays. Starts: Dec. 31. Continues through Jan. 3, 2009
KEEP THE HOUSTON PRESS FREE... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Bob Ruggiero has been writing about music, books, visual arts and entertainment for the Houston Press since 1997, with an emphasis on classic rock.
