A.D. Players provides family-oriented theater that entertains, enlightens and inspires, so it’s natural for the company to present the New Testament musical
Godspell. Director Kevin Dean reports: “Jesus saw his disciples for what they were: men under construction. The 2012
Godspell revival includes the song “Beautiful City.” Just as the process of life refines us, construction turns a rundown city into a beautiful one, a process that allows us to become who and what we were meant to be.” Construction also describes the play, which began in 1970 as a college project by John-Michael Tebelak at Carnegie Mellon, opened at La MaMa Theatre in Greenwich Village, moved to the Cherry Lane with songs added by Stephen Schwartz, then to the Promenade Theater, where it ran for 2,142 performances, before opening on Broadway in 1976.
