Theater critic Matthew Murray said The Great American Trailer Park Musical was ยthe theatrical equivalent of a bag of Doritos, complete with orange residue left on your fingertips: You know every minute is bad for you, but you canยt get enough.ย Weยd agree, itยs junk food, but really tasty junk food.
The show is set in a trailer park in Florida. Jeannie is agoraphobic and hasnยt left her trailer in 20 years. Her husband Norbert is a bit on the dull side and overly anxious about everything. Their marriage, already strained by the death of their son, is put to the test when a new neighbor moves in; sheยs a sexy stripper named Pippi whoยs running from her past and thinks Norbertยs arms are the perfect place to hide in. There are more neighbors, who gossip, sing backup and generally act like a Greek chorus.
