Harvest Moon Ball

Swing into fall at the Harvest Moon Ball. The Houston Swing Dance Society's annual bash is a chance for hepcats to strut their stuff and newbies to get into the swing of things. There are for-fun (read: no-prize) contests, performances and lessons in steps from the West and East coasts. Houston's Old School Swing Band will keep time, giving jitterbugs plenty of opportunity to show off their moves. So straighten those ties, shine those wingtips, saddle up those, um, saddle shoes and get ready to Lindy Hop with the best of them - or at least have a good time trying not to fall on your ass. 7 p.m. Rice Memorial Center, Rice University, 6100 Main. For information, visit www.hsds.org. $15.50 to $20.
Sat., Sept. 26, 7 p.m., 2009
KEEP THE HOUSTON PRESS FREE... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
