High Standards: The American Songbook

The term “high standards” in the title of Music Box Theater’s newest production, High Standards: The American Songbook, refers to the show’s music. The term can apply equally well to the remarkable group of singers/actors that forms the Music Box’s resident company: Luke Wrobel, Kristina Sullivan, Kay Taylor, Brad Scarborough and Rebekah Dahl. Time after time, production after production, they deliver in song and dance refreshing, delightful hours of rich, comical entertainment. Now they present songs by great American composers — George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer — that were turned into standards by the legendary talents of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby and Billie Holi-day. Co-founder Dahl says, “We formed The Music Box to perform great songs and write comedy to accompany them. What better way to honor this tradition than to do a show themed on the backbone of popular music?”
