Two Houston Ballet dancers will be performing on a different continent, let alone a different stage, at the end of the week. Principal Connor Walsh and soloist Karina Gonzalez will perform the roles of Prince Desire and Aurora in a new staging of the 19th century classic Sleeping Beauty at the historic Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina on June 30 and July 1.
Though Walsh has been invited to perform on international stages before (though not with a company as large as the one in Argentina), Sleeping Beauty marks the first time Gonzalez will travel internationally as a guest artist to perform a full-length narrative ballet.
"It is a thrill to know that I have been invited to perform on such an iconic stage, and I am excited to perform in such a beautiful space after the theater's extensive renovations," Gonzalez says in a press release. "The idea of the experience gives me goose bumps."
It also marks the first time Houston Ballet dancers have been invited to perform in Argentina.
